The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), a national organization representing nearly 3,000 local health departments nationwide, has an immediate opening for a Senior Director, Infectious Disease and Informatics.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Director is a leader of a portfolio of significant functions or programs at NACCHO, and is responsible for both developing the strategic direction and ensuring the achievement of results within their portfolio. The Senior Director is expected to integrate complex activities within their portfolio and across the organization. The Senior Director oversees the design and implementation of programs to achieve the unit's strategic goals and is accountable for overall management of budgets, work plans, and unit deliverables; generates revenue and relationships with key stakeholders; and makes recommendations to leadership on improving operational effectiveness of unit and program(s). As a leader and manager of employees, the Senior Director is responsible for planning, organizing and managing a unit or functional area, typically comprised of professional and support staff.

An individual at this level is recognized externally as an expert in his or her field. Positions at this level require the ability to act independently within the broader organizational mission, think strategically, and operationalize the design, implementation and management of projects related to their functional or programmatic area. This position may also require the ability to work on projects of a highly confidential and sensitive nature and interface with internal and external stakeholders across various levels.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Program Specific Information

The Senior Director, Infectious Disease and Informatics (IDI) provides leadership and direction to NACCHO's Emerging Infectious Diseases and Informatics Programs. The Senior Director will be instrumental in establishing and maintaining core priorities and organizing framework for the IDI portfolio; communicating the vision of the team's work to both internal and external stakeholders; identifying opportunities to strengthen existing areas of focus and develop new lines of work by collaborating across the organization, including with other program areas (e.g. HIV/STI, maternal, child, and adolescent health, immunization, chronic disease, injury and violence prevention, preparedness, public health infrastructure and systems); playing a leadership role in the organization as a member of NACCHO's management team; and enhancing relationships with high-level external stakeholders including government agencies and representatives from the nonprofit, private, and academic sectors.

NACCHO's Emerging Infectious Disease Program aims to strengthen the capacity of local health departments to prevent, prepare for, and respond to public health threats due to infectious diseases. Specific program efforts include strengthening local health department capacity, infrastructure, and workforce development for addressing infection prevention and control, antimicrobial resistance, healthcare-associated infections, emerging infectious diseases and outbreaks, and other related activities.

NACCHO's Informatics Program supports data modernization efforts to help local public health departments to improve the quality, access to, sharing, and use of data for public health action in collaboration with their partners. Specific program efforts include improving interoperability of local health department information technology systems as well as equipping the local health department workforce with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to use new technologies, standards, and strategies that improve the collection, interpretation, and dissemination of data for making decisions.

  • Represents NACCHO at national, state, and local meetings on issues related to their unit.
  • Serves on national advisory committees and workgroups as it relates to issues within to their unit.
  • Maintains and continuously grows network of public health experts who can serve as assets to NACCHO.
  • Collaborates with Senior Advisor and Chief of Programs in identifying, assessing, and pursuing potential business opportunities that align with NACCHO's overall mission and vision.
  • Develops and expands consulting services related to issues related to unit.
  • Assists the Senior Advisor, Chief of Programs, or Executive Team in other matters as assigned.
Educational Background: 
BA/BS/Undergraduate
Skills/Experience: 

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 10-12 years relevant work experience; or a Master's degree in relevant professional field with a minimum of 8-10 years relevant work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification. Master's degree or certification in a relevant field preferred.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of a broad range of public health issues and policies at the local, state, and/or federal level.
  • Strong understanding of cooperative agreement, grant management, budget management, and contract processes.
  • Knowledge of business development practices.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $142,240 - $151,120
